Dropbox is more than web space. The idea for the new Dropbox campaign is to show people that they can drop more in their life than just ordinary real things. With Dropbox they can drop and share their digital stuff all over the world where ever they are. The main part of the campaign is a giveaway which comes with a flash drive places on a little card. The clue is that the flash drive has no space on it just a direct link to Dropbox to create an account. But the flash drive can do more than just guide to www.dropbox.com. It is a little tool that registers little Dropboxes that are spread all over the city. These little boxes contain different thinks like more space or even music albums. Being back home the flash drive transfer this little collected Boxes to the Dropbox account.
As described at the beginning there will be flash drives branded by Dropbox which will be distributed in public. Many people will think that they get a free USB flash drive sponsored by Dropbox. But after they plugged in their new flash drive at home they will see that this flash drive has no space on it, just a direct link to www.dropbox.com to sign up for getting 2GB webspace for free. Because you don´t need hard drives anymore if you got Dropbox. But the flash drive is not just an empty flash drive with an ad on it. It can be used to find little dropboxes which are spread all over the city. To find those little boxes the user can use the iPhone app to see where the boxes are hidden and what they contain. If a box is found the flash drive will notice and save what the box contains. This could be more space or even music albums. Being back home the users can transfer those collected items to their Dropbox.
To promote this campaign there will be different media like beermats, bags and postcards which will be send to the target audience. Every media is telling to „drop more“ than the common stuff like glasses, shoppings or the mail. These media talks to a bride range of audience and reaches lots of people. The idea to „drop more“ could be continued an any other things that can be dropped.
As described there will be a free flash drive that has not got any space but it is an important tool to collect little Dropboxes which are spread all over the city. This page shows how it would look like if a user is plugging a promoted flash drive to his computer. A little window will pop up which is explaining the spectator how Dropbox works and how easy it is to use. On the next page the user should create an account and is able to invite friends to use Dropbox. Because Dropbox becomes more effective if many friends use Dropbox to share digital stuff.. In addition the user can download the Dropbox app and read how the „collect boxes“ game works.
